Aaarrrr, there's gold in them hills.........
For over a year, I have been playing a wicked online game with my family which involves walking, gadgets, and the internet. So the mrs is happy, the kids love it, and it gets me out in the fresh air too.
The game is called Geocaching, the idea is to find a cache of treasure hidden in a forest, common etc.. The 'treasure' (usually has no value) is usually a tupperware box full of toys/cards etc.. hidden under a fallen tree. From the Geocaching website, once you have joined (free), you can search for local caches, you are then given coordinates which you can find with the use of a basic GPS. Once you find the treasure, you swap 'treasure' you brought with you, log it in a book, take a picture, and when you return home you log the entry in the website.
This is an international game with loads of hidden caches, we have done some in Scotland whilst on holiday too.
There are quite a few around Horsham, we did one in Southwater Country Park yesterday.
Oh, the best bit: it's free apart from the outlay of buying a GPS (£50 to £500).
So, what are you waiting for? Give it a go!
