What a brilliant facility this is, open access for families, dog walkers and routes for Horse riders.
Our council should be applauded for providing this.
Why then do dog walkers take advantage?
So many councils are banning dogs from open spaces, ours provide a safe place to exercise them, making sure recently that the gateways are even more secure and providing dog bins along the track.
I regularly see people not picking up after their dogs. What's the matter with them?
Where is our dog warden?
Why aren't these people fined?
I have a dog myself, so I'm not anti dog, but these people make me so angry. They are spoiling it for everyone else

| Could there be no wardens there as this area isn't visited by the Britain in Bloom judges? I only say this as my experience of working the carfax the last 8 years seems that this is the council's only motivation to keep the town clean and beautiful
------------------------------------My two gripes... a) Britain in Bloom... what's it done for us? b) Horsham, Time Well Spent... Really? To do what??

| Enjoy it while you can because building 1500 homes on Chesworth Farm is one of the options being considered by the Council in its current review.

Having recently discovered Chesworth Farm, I thought I'd bump this.
The dog mess is obviously an ongoing issue, as is the nuisance dogs cause to the resident wildlife. I observed a dog chase and almost catch a fox cub recently - and have heard that other animals (including a Roe Deer) have not been as lucky. I think HDC need to decide whether CWF should be a nature reserve (and ban dogs from certain areas of the farm) or a public recreation area.
Now there is little threat from development, there's no excuse. I emailed a week ago asking for information about progress on the 2007 Management Plan, but as yet they've not replied.

The land is safe from housing - for now at least - as the Council withdrew it from the list of possible sites.
Given the problem caused by foxes personally I would not worry too much about dogs chasing them. But the dog mess - that's another matter.

This should be easy to sort if there were more dog wardens and the council would impose the fines they threaten.
I've never heard of any dog walker being fined or ever seen a warden in the Horsham district. I could personally point out a few of the culprits that ruin the reputation of the majority of responsible dog walkers in Horsham

| We suffer this problem in Denne Road with people walking their dogs down to Denne Hill. There is at least one dog owner that regularly allows his or her dog to crap on the pavement all the way down the road, and leaves the mess for children to walk through on their way to St Mary's Primary School. What a charming, responsible member of society.

There is a new threat to Chesworth Farm as reported in today's County Times.
Not many people realise that a large chunk of what they think is Chesworth Farm is actually owned by West Sussex County Council. It is the area in the north east corner called Muggeridge Field. There is access via Arun Way and Athelstan Way and it seems the County Council is gearing up to propose its use for housing. It obviously hopes that the District Council's plans to identify small development plots to tide it over until the West of Horsham development comes on stream will make this site attractive for development.
