hi everyone, what does everyone think of the smoking ban? Hello Welcome to the forums. This issue has been discussed here in previous posts: http://www.horshamforum.com/Topic45-4-1.aspx (You can still vote on this one) & http://www.horshamforum.com/Topic224-4-1.aspx Judging from the responses I think people are largely in favour of it. Horsham certainly seems to be ahead of most of the country in VOLUNTARILY banning smoking from several of its pubs and most of its restaurants. I personally completely agree with it.Although I think banning smoking in private members clubs is a step too far. What do you think?

hi all, i didnt realise the topic had been previously discussed as im new here, but in reply to Gavin i would say as a former publican i totally agree with the ban. Not only non smokers suffer from passive smoking, but you have to give a thought for the staff. It was becoming very difficult for publicans to comply with new health and safety laws etc and i believe it will also help to combat drug problems in the lomg term. What do you all think?

I think it great. I also think peoples attitudes are changing. We were in the Hen and Chicken last night (see Southwater Chat). When it is busy this pub is very smoky. I know lots of people in the village that won't go in there because of the smoke. I was very pleased to see last night that they have introduced a non smoking section in their restaurant. To be honest last night was so busy it did not make a great deal of difference but it is a very encouraging sign. I was also very pleased to see the ban was being respected. The place was so busy that non-diners where sitting in the restaurant, in fact nobody was dining while we were there. Most the people in the non smoking section were smokers but whenever they wanted to smoke they got up and either went outside or moved to the other side of the pub. I honestly think that pubs like the Hen and Chicken will thrive when the ban comes into force. There are thousands of people in Southwater but the pub is empty most nights. I am sure that when the ban is introduced many more people will visit it. Look at how well the Haldi is doing, they have a blanket smoking ban.

Hi Tina, it really hit home to me when i visited a large pub in the north recently, this pub could seat 200 people comfortably and yet the only busy section was an area of about 40 people and yes you guessed it the no smoking area! thanks for your reply.

| I am in favour of it. I started the poll in the Horsham Chat forum (which you can still vote in). You only have to go to the Black Jug on a saturday night to see what a success this ban is likely to be.
