WSCT have just picked up the story on their website: here. Seems to be a fairly neutral story posted 9 days after the press release was given to them; it was in time for last weeks paper. Perhaps they don't want to upset any advertisers

It does seem very toned down compared to the comments I have been hearing around the town.

The Headline says "Swans on the Move" but then goes on to imply that there isn't actually a new home for them yet.

"Swans to be Removed" would be a far more appropriate headline.

I read the WSCT article, and it is fairly neutral. They are also asking for comments from the public about the removal/relocation of the swans. If the Forum is a good barometer of public opinion, they need look no further! I think that the speed at which this thread has developed shows that people do care about a well known town landmark. Also, most people can't believe the reason behind the removal of the swans.

And we ought to remember that Queen Victoria's sixtieth Jubilee Fountain languished in a council yard for 30 years before being brought back out, co-incident with the current queen' silver jubilee in 1977.

I couldn't help but put my £0.02 in:

Despite my theories in the posting, I tend to believe the idea floated earlier in this thread, that it is a move to regain some retail space.  This, in my opinion, is even worse.  If Gill Buchanan had said, "The swans have been here for 16 years and it is time for a change.  We're going to move them and use the cubic footage they have been taking up to make more money" I would at least have some respect for that.  Hiding behind a H&S Enforcer isn't giving in to lunacy, it's simply spineless.

It’s good to see the Horsham Society involved. That photograph looks awfully familiar though!

Sorry M I think I will have to correct them on the credit for that one!
