Interesting to note that Swan Walk is operated by the insurers Swan Walk. Perhaps we need to set up a petition on the Prime Minister's web page or get WSCT to champion the cause...or both

The thing I really can't understand is, if the water really is such a problem why could it not simply be drained an replaced with an 'artificial' water surface. With modern plastics and lighting I am sure it could be made to look quite realistic.

| THE NANNY STATE HAS ARRIVED IN HORSHAM. I just cannot believe this. If this was announced on April 1st it would have been better. To think that this has come from educated people, it leaves me dumbfounded. What ever happened to common sense. I would love to read the risk assessment report. It must make for interesting reading. What exactly are the environment and water safety issues. If they are really that bad, maybe we should all sue Swan Walk management for knowingly putting us at risk for the last decade ! If a fountain inside a shopping centre is such a risk, I would hate them to do a risk assessment at the Pavilions. All that water and slippery floors...not to mention the risk of disease from verucas. I agree with DNW, when people look back at this in the years to come they will not believe why it was done.

| I bet this has got more to do with maximising retail space then H&S. I bet a retail booth of some sort pop up in the not too distant future on the same space currently occupied by the swans.

| I think you have it in one. Look at the photo that DNW posted on the previous page. Move the swans and you could get a nice stall in there, or BB's could get in a few more tables. I hope HDC don't carry out a Health and Safety review of all the town's fountains and follow suit closing these "lethal" public attractions. Long live common sense!!

| It is interesting to note that the Horsham Society was not aware of this move until I e mailed them a link to this thread. To their credit, and Horsham Council's I got a reply today. HDC wish to relocate it and are looking for suggestions. To my mind it will need to be an 'inside' lockable area with a good ceiling from which to suspend them from. Swan Walk springs to mind! Maybe the upper floor in the Capitol...

Horsham people are scared of swans - they are chickens I bet the residents of Dorking are well chuffed at have a huge great big cock in the middle of their roundabout. Can you shed any light on the history of why its there?
