I heard very recently that the swan sculpture in Swan Walk is to be taken down, possibly given to the museum.

Can anyone confirm or refute this?

Why on earth would they want to do that? I will try and find out.

I did notice the Swans were hidden behind some temporary panels today so something is going on.

Unfortunately I can confirm this is true. The Swans are apparently being permanently removed "due to health and safety reasons". This is all I have managed to find out so far.

Many thanks to Gill Buchanan who has just sent me this press release:

Swan Walk Shopping Centre

PRESS RELEASE

13th September 2007

Swans migrate into the community

After an environmental and water safety review at Swan Walk Shopping Centre, the bronze swan sculpture is currently being removed for safe storage while discussions with local groups to finalise a new home are concluded.

Gill Buchanan, Centre Manager, confirmed that the bronze was to be donated to the community but that the final destination could not be confirmed at this stage. “We are delighted that the sculpture will continue to be accessible to the public and look forward to seeing them in their new home. Discussions continue with our local partners to find a suitable site.”
