I'm a bit worried about the proposed move by Rentokil Research Lab to the middle of Horsham, reported in the newspaper. If you look at their web site it says they work on pesticdes and breed rats and insects. Is this safe? Do they have permission? Look what happened when these bugs got out of the lab in Surrey and spread Foot and mouth.

| Hi John Thank you for registering and welcome to the forums. I think the difference is that in the Surrey case the lab intentionally stored the Foot and Mouth Virus which unfortunately broke out. Presumably the creatures stored at the Rentokill lab will not intentionally carry any infectious diseases or viruses. It will be interesting to see people’s views on this. Is it a good thing that new business is potentially coming to Horsham even if it is likely to be an unpopular one?

| Without reading the whole report I would be in favour of Rentokil coming to Horsham. It is a top brand, once voted best employer by the Institute of Management / Management Today magazine (I think it was those bodies). With Health & Safety regulations being very stringent these days they are unlikely to present a risk. They will also bring employment to the town which is going to be important following the demise of Applied Materials and the shrinkage of R&SA. With the other 'chemical' employer being Novartis it may bring a bit of competition into the recruitment market benefitting all employed in the business.

REPRIEVE FOR COLONY OF 400 RATS 15:00 - 21 June 2007
Fears that a colony of rats living at Rentokil's Felcourt premises would be culled have been quashed.
The East Grinstead Courier had learned the company intended to close its research and development facility and it was suggested 300 to 400 black rats that live in hay bails in an enclosure would be killed. The leading firm in pest control has moved its headquarters to London but had left its research and development operation in the town.
Rentokil spokesman Malcom Padley said they were looking to rehouse the rats at their European Technical Centre. Will they keep these rats at Furnace Court? and can they get out? Jonny
