At last Sainsburys is to deal with the problem of stolen trolleys by making them more difficult to steal. The use of radio controlled brakes will make them difficult to push when outside of the car park

I am always amazed to see adults pushing their shopping home in these stolen trolleys and have often wanted to photograph them to shame them on the internet.

Often we find them on the way to town and return them to Sainsburys. Alternatively you can phone them up and someone soon collects them.

Interesting but I wonder what will happen if the receiver fails while you are doing your shopping (Murphy's law etc.).

I can just imagine the trolley skidding to a half halfway down the frozen food aisle!

I'm not sure how they work but I would think that the brakes are always off and get activated as you cross the boundary. It must be a passive system on the trolleys or else they will need batteries!

Here is a story about the device which does not shed any more info on how it works
