I have found another DJ business has helped themselves to one of my favourite images from my site gallery, and put it on their wedding entertainment page (which I will not disclose on a public forum for obvious reasons). This image is one I took at a fuction in the summer, and I class this as theft, but have no experience of what to do about it.

Can anyone here advise?

Hi Brian

Sorry to hear that. It is most definitely copyright theft.

If I was in your position I would first contact them and state that they are infringing your copyright and ask that they remove it. My guess is that to avoid any hassle they probably would do that (and then go off and steal someone else's image).

One thing to bear in mind is that the DJ business themselves may be completely innocent. It may well be the web designer who has done this. Professional web designers will always seek to obtain the rights to use images on their websites. I personally will always try and use either the clients photographs or pictures I have taking on their behalf. Failing that I would use royalty free images from the likes of istockphoto.com. Unfortunately many less scrupulous web design 'companies' will just find an image on the internet and use it with complete disregard to who own the copyright.

If they don't and you want to take this further I would suggest you post this question in the legal section of the other forum I introduced you too. There are some very good legal people there that will give you some free advice.

Regards

Can you provide a link to the legal experts forum, it is something we all might find useful!

Thanks

By the way, I agree with Dot Net Web's advice. Usually direct contact will do the job. I would suggest phoning them

Thanks guys, I will first send them a letter asking to cease and desist, if this fails, I'll take your advice and escalate!
