Hi there!

I have a bit of a dilema in that my girlfriend and I have been searching for somewhere to move to in the South East for the past five months and have covered various areas in Kent and Surrey, but have finally made a decision to focus on the Horsham area for various reasons such as location, access to London and the coast, and importantly property prices.  The only problem is although we appreciate that Horsham hasn't really got any areas that are 'bad' or 'best avoided', in the same breath there must be areas that are nicer than others and people would recommend buying in those areas.  We are prepared to look at any of the outlying villages that surround Horsham, but no further than say Southwater.  Ideally we'd like to be in area that has character, a relatively strong community feel to it, and without sounding too much like a snob, something with minimal or fewer ex local authority housing.

Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Paulyruss

Thank you for registering and welcome to the forums.

We currently live in the Blakes Farm Road area of Southwater and would thoroughly recommend it. I go into Horsham Town Centre almost every day for either business or pleasure and it is only a 5 minute drive or a 10 minute bus journey away. Southwater has seen some great improvements in the last 12 months or so culminating last week with the arrival of our new 'Dinsosaur' and the opening of the CO-OP. We enjoy living in Southwater as it has easy access to some great country walks and bike rides, particularly the Downs Link.

If I were to choose an area of Horsham to live in it would probably be the North Horsham area. Hopefully some others will give you there opinions.

Regards

Southwater as well!  We moved here in Jan and love it.  We are a 20 min drive to the coast, next to the Country Park and Downs Link for walking/joging/dog walking.  The new centre is great and has most things you need.  I travel to London every day and the journey is fine.  We moved from Crawley and have not regretted it one bit!

I would suggest North Horsham.  Very good road links (A264/A24/M23) and handy for the airport and commuting to London (Littlehaven station within walking distance).

We have an excellent local surgery (Holbrook) and very good schools.  Town centre is a 5 minute drive or a 40 minute walk.  I moved here just over 4 years ago from Kent and did extensive research on many areas of East and West Sussex before choosing Horsham.  Second best place to live in the UK based on the recent Channel Four poll.

I live with my wife and young family (two small boys aged 1 and 4) in Broadbridge Heath and thoroughly recommend it. It is very close to Horsham about 2 minutes by car. Buses are frequent but stop running after 7.00pm. It has a very good community feel and is very much a village with one large village store. We are very close to a large Tesco's and trading park with Homebase, Halfords etc. We have excellent road links and are close to the A24 for Worthing, Dorking, and Crawley etc. A264 to Billingshurst.

It's nice to see a few people reply to this. Looking at the forum stats we have a lot of search engine referrals for people searching about "where to live in Horsham" etc.

As with any forum we tend to get a lot more people reading than posting so posts like this are quite useful for all those 'lurkers' out there..

Paulyruss if you do settle in this area.please come back and let us know where you choose.

We live within ten minutes walk of Horsham town centre. Don't need the car for any shopping except the big once-a-week Sainsbury's.

Enough shops and entertainment to keep me happy. You would not have a chance of dragging me anywhere near Crawley or even Blue Water

M, I tend to agree with you about shopping anywhere else. I think Horsham is unique in that there are a lot of independent shops around, a rare thing these days in any British town with all the big branded names. Apart from the shops Horsham has a friendly atmosphere, you don’t get people in London being friendly and starting a conversation. I come from London and my wife comes from Southwater, she could tell you how unfriendly our capital is.

Horsham has a lot to offer, we are close to beautiful countryside, the sea and have good transport links.
