Following the enquiry it would seem that the path is being re-opened but as a footpath. This seeems a bit odd given that the rest of the trail is designed for bikes and horses.

See attached Word document that WSCC sent me. Sorry about the resolution but the Word document contains two images (!) of text and one of a map

Many thanks for that M, that is great news, well researched!. As I said in this thread I though the old diversion was quite dangerous.
  
I agree it is very odd that it will only have footpath status. I wonder if it will be enforced. I can't imagine hoards of horse and bike riders voluntarily dismounting at that point.

WSCC have confirmed that this portion will be a footpath I can't think of any walkers that I have seen around there!

Very odd. I would love to know the reasoning behind this decision. It sounds like some sort of compromise had to be made.
