There have been quite a few searches this week for information about the Southwater Dinosaur Sculpture in Lintot Square.

This is the official press release from Horsham District Council:

Southwater's biggest ever celebrations 15 and 16 December 2006

SOUTHWATER will be holding its biggest ever celebrations on 15 and 16 December and everyone is invited to come and see why.

The important dates signify not only the onset of Christmas but also the end of the village centre’s £25 million redevelopment where a whole new village centre has been put in place.

Shops, housing, a new health centre, a community centre and a Co op store are just some of the additions to the new focus of village life based around the newly named Lintot Square. A new public house will be completed nearby soon.

Beeson House, the impressive new community centre, also offers parish council offices, a library, a business resource centre, community police office, youth centre and a Citizens Advice Bureau.

To celebrate completion of this momentous project there will be a series of special events taking place on Friday, December 15, and Saturday, December 16.

Putting the cherry on the top of the cake and - linking with the area’s distant history - there will be the unveiling of a specially commissioned iguanodon dinosaur sculpture on 15 December.

The celebrations are free to enter and take place in Southwater’s Lintot Square and as follows:

I took a look at this this morning when out for a bike ride. Diverted off the Downs Link into the square. Nice looking dinosaur and arcade. Plenty of parking available although it was 09:00 AM on a Sunday morning.

There is no commemorative plaque on the plinth to let future generations know about the Iguanadon, the sculptor and history. It is built on Southwater bricks though

There is some more information on the Southwater Iguanodon on the sculptor Hannah Stewart’s excellent website.
