| A debate has begun over black African slavery and the extent of the governments statement of regret today. The debate seems to be around whether financial reparations should be made for something that happened 200 years ago etc etc. Whilst not wishing to express my views via this forum on this issue it did raise a question in my mind: I have read many books about Horsham but do not recall any reference to slavery in any of them. Perhaps this was never documented or never involved Horsham at a high enough level to merit a historical record. I would appreciate any information anyone has on the slave trade's relationship to Horsham

Hi M Here is a link to a press release about an exhibition that was held in Horsham Museum earlier in the year: It mentions "Horsham’s involvement in the abolition of slavery". I have no idea what that means but somebody from the museum might know.

Thanks for the link, I will follow that up. I seem to remember that there may have been a book promised to follow this exhibition. I will e mail the museum to find out....
