As you can see the Southwater Station sign is back and the bridge has been retained (despite the fact the the road over the top of it is no longer in use):

See the gallery for more pictures.

RE: Southwater Station on the Downs Link

The road bridge is still in place even though the road itself has been diverted, the cycle path leads under it and through the field. There is a pelican crossing to get across the road, with buttons at a height to suit horse riders.

Is the road bridge staying or will it be taken down?

RE: Southwater Station on the Downs Link

Hi Stuart

Thank you for registering and welcome to the forums.

Here is a link to a very useful guide:

http://www.westsussex.gov.uk/leisureandtourism/prow/pdfs/DownsLinkRouteGuide.pdf

I picked up a printed version of this from the railway carriage at the old West Grinstead station a couple of years ago. It looks like that if you come up the Downs Links from Southwater Country Park you will go past Southwater Medical Centre and then have to cross the new road.

On the other side of the road there is just the very end bit of the old platform left now. From there you will hopefully be able to pass under the bridge and continue on the Downs Link as normal.

RE: Southwater Station on the Downs Link

I saw today that the road bridge over the old railway is no longer in service. This had been removed before the barriers went up. Did it get removed for safe keeping or was it stolen?

Coincidentally I had taken a photo of it not long before it disappeared. You can see it on Flickr by clicking the link below

Station sign
