It is very difficult to feel any sympathy for HFC in its current predicament. They were only too pleased to jump at what must have seemed an offer of riches for their Queen Street ground. But they seem to have given little or no thought to where they might relocate. One would have thought they would have sorted out a new site before selling out. With the pressure to build new houses the Queen Street land was unlikely to depreciate in value.

Steady on 'Local Hornet'. This isn't personal - the issue is with the Horsham Football Club, not you. Let's talk: What precisely do you think is slanderous in the leaflet? What is misleading? Where are the lies? Where is the defamation? Where is the slander?

One of the problems with the planning application is that there is very little information in it about what the football club will be doing or what it wont be doing. The fact is that unless it says it wont have concerts in the ground than it could - other clubs do so, why not Horsham?

All the leaflet is doing is opening people's eyes to the possibility. Concerts, and other events, at football grounds is modern way of generating much needed income. Other clubs do it. Why not Horsham? If you can get the club to undertake not to have concerts, or other non-football events, at the ground then that's one concern out of the way.

In the meantime just have a long quiet look at the leaflet and ask yourself: Could it happen? If you live close enough to be affected then you should be as concerned - then ask Horsham FC to state, clearly and unambiguously what precisely it would be doing at the ground (usage, frequency and timings) and give assurances about what it wont do.

can't you people just try to be nice to one another? I have to say I sympathise more with the member complaining about the noise... but honestly... words like slanderous... ok, I'm finished, go back to the mudslinging

Any possibility of you cheering a little less loudly after a goal as I will have to sit and listen to that noise when I'm trying to relax in my garden on a Saturday afternoon? No airhorn either would be perfect.

If that is the case why are you using scare tactics by misleading/lying to local residents?

I refer to the leaflets that were shoved through my letter-box on Friday evening - they left me absolutely fuming. Where is it written that Horsham Football Club will be holding pop and rock concerts for example? This has never happened in the club's 127 year history in the town and they would have a bit more consideration than that to start holding them at Holbrook if the application were to go through.

There are many more defamatory remarks, but because I have forwarded this propaganda to the secretary of HFC I am unable to make further comment on your false accusations until I can obtain another copy.

Your views are hardly "relevant and practical", and being a loyal supporter of the Hornets I find some of your slanderous comments personally upsetting. (If this was America I would be suing you for defamation of character.)

I was born in Horsham and have lived here all my life - the last 17 years as a resident of Holbrook. I am very much part of the Hornets and now I'm going to see yellow leaflets saying "Buzz Off". Well thank you very much for making me feel unaccepted in my own neighbourhood.

I have to say that the loss of the site to housing isn't much of a threat considering the increase in noise, light pollution and parking problems likely in the building and use of a new stadium. All objections should be sent in writing or email to contact@horsham.gov.uk (Reference DC/08/0734) before the end of April.

Holbrook NAG (Neighbourhood Action Group) www.holbrooknag.co.uk has been formed to provide a focal point for the neighbours of the Holbrook Club site to express their practical concerns and opinions, positive or negative, regarding proposals as they develop for the site by Horsham Football Club.
