Personally, I found the RSPCAs occupation of a hugely expensive Horsham site for many years far more offensive than someone rattling a tin.

Cancer Research has a very nice office in North Parade. Could they not operate just as effectively from an out of town business park?

You can see the person rattling the tin (not making a huge sum), but you can't see the Red Cross fund raiser with a £50k salary.

If the noise bothers you that's fair enough, but we shouldn't be too shocked or outraged that the collectors get paid - it's just economics.

By that I mean the organisation that is the charity, of course they have costs but that is to be expected. I don't expect someone rattling a tin to take a percentage for doing so

Now I know what you mean by chuggers - and I agree with the thread. When I give to charity I expect 100% to reach the good cause!

I found this on the Charity Commission website. If a "Professional fundraiser" doesn't comply with the following then they are breaking the law. (note, they have to state how much they are making out of the deal)

Professional fundraisers: In appealing on behalf of a charity,

charities or charitable cause for money or other property,

professional fundraisers will need to indicate clearly:

• for whom they are fundraising;

• if there is more than one institution, the proportions in which

the institutions are respectively to benefit;

• how payment to them is calculated; and

• how much they will be paid in connection with the appeal,

or as accurate an estimate as is reasonably possible in the

circumstances.

And I thought that you did work for charity out of kindness.......got that one wrong!

In my view chuggers are the unacceptable face of charity fundraising. Chugging is based on a mixture of deceit and dubious marketing techniques. Chuggers should be forced to wear a tabard which says "I am not a volunteer. I am doing this to make money". I ignore them and actively avoid donating to any charity that I know uses this method.

You should try working in London. I have to battle through these "chuggers" every single day of the year - twice per day.

Its didn't really used to bother me until I found out they were paid a commission on what they collect. Now I will not give any of them the time of day and choose to donate to charity in my own way.

Anyway, you should be happy now. Every time (or even before every time) any property is put on the market you have an opportunity to sell a Home Information Pack.

At least the estate agents will have something to blame the downturn in the housing market on!

Am i the only one getting tired of chuggers around carfax and the swan centre, come to think of it the street musicians are starting to grate too, yesterday the noise coming from the rotary stall was way to loud, corny tunes and chug chug does nothing for me, Yes it's a good cause, but please don't annoy people chuggers, we just want to shop in peace.
