My recommendation is Warnham Nature Reserve.

This does not strictly meet your criteria for a free day out, but children are free and adults pay only 50 pence each.

You will find Warnham Nature Reserve just off of the A24 on the west side of Horsham. parking is free and there is a small area with tables for picnics aswell as a small shop.

The reserve itself is very big and the paths around it are all good. There is a lake in the middle full of ducks, swans and herons etc.

Lots for children to see that you won't see in a normal park.

You are not allowed to take picnics inside the reserve itself but tables are available outside the gate by the office/shop.

Well worth a visit!:)

Took my kids to Horsham Park and it is a fabulous park! Firstly, it is so attractive, secondly the playground is one of the best playgrounds EVER! My kids cried when i said it was time to go home. I've put a review of it on Better Days Out http://www.betterdaysout.co.uk/westsussex/parksandplaygrounds.php

We also went swimming at Pavilions in the park - very good as well. Many thanks for all your comments so far. If anyone else can recommend a great free place to take children, then please let me know.

It is a great park with something for all ages to enjoy. It is a real treasure created on land donated by one of the more affluent Horsham families, the Hurst family.

I am very impressed with your website. It's very well designed, very colourful and full of useful information.

Horsham does indeed have a great park. I am not a parent myself so I will leave the recommendation submission for others to make. Hopefully somebody with children and experience of the park will fill your form in.

If you want to see the changes that have taken place in Horsham Park in recent years have a look at www.virtualhorsham.co.uk If you 'drag' the map to the park area you will initially see the existing Microsoft Virtual Earth images that were taken around the turn of the millennium. Shortly afterwards the new high-resolution images will load that show the new additions including the Pavilions in the Park and the maze. Once the images have loaded you can switch between the two by selecting and deselecting the "Show High Resolution Images" tick box. You can also zoom the map in and out by using the scroll wheel on your mouse.

Horsham also has a great free museum. Again I will leave it to those with children to review it from a parents perspective. Horsham Museum is located in the Tourist Information Office in The Causeway.

There are many other places of interest around Horsham with free admission that are suitable for children. Hopefully many will find there way into your website which should become a great resource for Horsham families.

Hi everyone, I was recently told that Horsham had a really nice park/playground for children. I run a website called Better Days Out for parents and families. If you know of a great park and can submit a recommendation to the website (and instantly enter the prize draw - prize is a free pass to Sea Life Brighton!) then please go to www.betterdaysout.co.uk and click on Worthing and West Sussex. Then go to parks and playgrounds and click on Recommend a Park now. All you need to do is fill in the form and give a description of the park, as much info as you can, and send it. That's it. Also, if anyone knows of a good museum, free paddling pool or baby and toddler group, then please submit those as well!

Feel free to simply post your recommendation on this forum as well, but don't forget to include a description of the place you are recommending - and it needs to be a free place to go. Thanks very much and look forward to chatting more about places for families and children in and around Horsham.
