Actually, its 50p for 3hours... Cheapest car park in Horsham... and its noticed at peak times, (holidays and generally every week night).

Horshams Parking Structure seems to be very hit and miss.

But then again, im sure it could be worse.

I think the problem with Horsham is every carpark / pay-and-display seems to have its own parking fee structure - why make it so complicated?

For example to park behind the telephone exchange its min £1.70 for up to 3 hours , yet across the road its 60p for up to 1 hour , and around the corner in the Pavilions its 50p for 1 hour!!

As I have said several times before I really don't see what the (alleged) problem is with Horsham car park prices. I regularly park in many other towns and Horsham compares favourably to them all.

I park in Horsham almost every day and rarely pay more the £1.00. This covers up to 2 hours. Up to 6 hours only costs £3.50, this will be usually be more than enough more the vast majority of shoppers. £3.50 will barely cover an hour's parking in Brighton!

I understand the argument about the £10 all day parking charge. Campaigners say that this makes it hard to recruit staff for the town centre. The counter argument (which I agree with) is that if the all day charge is too low the car parks will fill up with people working in the town leaving no room for shoppers. I think there is also the danger that London commuters would be tempted to leave their cars in the car parks while they take the train.

I think it is a shame that the Hop Oast Park and Ride is not used more by town centre workers. £1.50 for the car and all it's occupants is great value if you are going to be in Horsham all day. In my opinion the savings made easily outlay the slight inconvenience.

I was in Cheltenham recently, and I parked at the town's park and ride at the racecourse. The parking is free but the ride into town costs £1 per person. There was 4 of us! Makes our park and ride look very good value.:)

Don't complain about Horsham prices when Guildford charges £4.40 for four hours :(

I agree Andy. I don't think a pound for 2 hours parking is too much too pay, whoever you are. I think Horsham parking is good value as long as you are not there all day. Some of the traders are saying the cost for ALL DAY parking is making it hard for them to recruit and retain staff.

On a brighter note I am pleased to hear that the MVC store will be taken over by Music Zone as of tomorrow. All the existing staff are to be retained which is good news because they have some very helpful and knowledgeable people working there.

Along the same line, I must agree with HDC to charge disabled badge holders for parking in town centre car parks. These people have paid thousands for a car, pay to insure it, pay road tax on it and then moan that they have to pay £1 for 2 hours parking! One woman interviewed in the county times said that she would drive to Burgess Hill instead ( that will cost her far more in petrol than the parking fee). Why do disabled badge holders think that it should be free?

I think you are right Clive.

Its probably as much to do with competition from internet retailers, loss of revenue from film processing due to people switching to digital cameras and a further competition from a new Jessops store opening in Horsham.

Its a shame none the less. This week has also seen the beginning of the closure of MVC in Horsham. With the Allders store still empty there are less and less shops to choose from.

Car parking fees seem to have increased in recent years but I'd be surprised if that was the only reason for a shop closing.

As an amateur photographer I am sad to hear that the Sussex Camera Centre in the Carfax is to close. Apparently the manager blames the high cost of all day parking in Horsham for ruining trading conditions in the town. Any thoughts?:discuss:
