There must be some empty shops that could maybe serve the purpose but the rates would be prohibitive. Perhaps the night club in the park could offer the service on off peak nights? There is also the Capitol that organises its own events. Apparently the Rock night last friday was excellent. Then there is the drill hall.

I can't see that Horsham would have sufficient musical interest to make a dedicated venue viable though. It needs to attract a diverse audience on a regular basis.

Is it worth working with the Capitol to get support for the kind of events that you would like to go to? I know that they invite public comment

That is a shame. I didn't realise people has actually tried to create a dedicated venue only to be turned down. :crazy:

Those venues are ok... but Horsham needs a dedicated venue, with character... not a temporary solution...

I know of one person who tried to obtain a piece of land then being disused to turn into a venue, this was rejected by HDC, and I believe at one stage they were looking to Foundry Lane for a venue, again I believe, turned down by HDC in favour of the Christian place up there.

For as long as i can remember and my mum, there has been no dedicated venue...

It's a crying shame.

Thank you for registering and welcome to the forums.

I love live music and completely agree that we are lacking a decent venue in Horsham town centre. I think the Cricket Club function room would be a great venue but it appears they only cater for private functions. i.e. a promoter cannot book it and then resell tickets.

I know that Martin's Town Hall proposal was blocked by the council but I have not heard of any pub conversions etc. being turned down. Maybe it just needs somebody to come up with right scheme. There are certainly the audiences in Horsham, the old 'Rock Asylum' nights at Broadbridge Heath Leisure Centre used to be packed (before the promoter moved away to Eastbourne :crying: )

The Olde Kings Head used to have assembly rooms above it. If you look at the shop fronts on the East Street side you will see the theatre-like entrance. Perhaps this could be re-opened with a bit of pressure on the council.

Have you tried contacting Martin Jeremiah? He is a keen and active local musician whohas posted here.

Being in to music and being born and bred here in this wonderful town, when oh when come someone tell me, will Horsham get itself a decent gig venue, a dedicated one?

I know gigs are sometimes held at the Drill Hall and some acoustic stuff in small pubs around and about... but with the volume of good bands here, surely someone could turn a pub into a dedicated venue/pub like they have in Camden...

Is it just the council that block these things?
