The first tells the story from 100 million years ago through to 1790. The second volume takes the reader onto 1880. A third volume is mentioned which brings the history up to 2004 although maybe that will be reviewed to a later date depending on how the preparation goes.

I have the first two volumes and it is a good, widely researched piece of work. Interestingly spiral bound so easy to use on a desk. It has been prepared by the long time curator of the museum Jeremy Knight.

More about is on the council press release here
