Thanks for your feedback TCM. We moved in ten years ago now and love the town and the whole area. I have probably said this elsewhere but it bears repeating: We were always amazed that, on the fireworks and Christmas Lights event, no shops were open. The town would be full of shoppers with nowhere to spend their money or even buy fish and ships. Now that the fireworks and turn-on event have gone the shops were open to empty streets.

Even if the fireworks have to stay away why can't the turn-on be brought back? Maybe I am missing something but it can't cost much to have a couple of the Panto celebrities do the countdown from the bandstand whilst MercuryFM play the music. Unless I am wrong the only 'cost' would be a bit of overtime for the electrician. I would think that the Panto actors and Mercury give their time for free in exchange for some publicity

I share the concerns raised and have highlighted your comment to the manager of Horsham's Deep Blue.

This year the number of businesses taking advantage of the potential trade generated by 'Late Night Shopping' promotional PR and activities in Horsham was overall, severely disappointing. Consequently, the Traders' Guild have been asked to take a lead in making plans for and gaining commitment to Christmas 2007 shopping events in the town outside of Swan Walk. These will then be supported and promoted accordingly.

It perhaps is of interest that a significant proportion of the shops and businesses that did open on late nights report that they did trade very well as a result. The fact is that they probably would have done even better if more of their neighbours were open as well.

I have now added a picture to the Collets Alley entry on visthorsham.co.uk:

Deep Blue is the only business with its main entrance on Collets Alley. Samuel Parker can be seen in the alley but its main entrance is on Middle Street which can be seen at the far end of the alley.

Thanks again for making me realise we missed this location out of the original guide. I can see why you call yourself 'Hidden Horsham' ;)

Ah you mean Deep Blue in Collets Alley.

Thanks you have made me realise that we didn't have a separate entry for Collets Alley on the web site. It was too small to put on the printed guide but the website allows us to do it.

The shop that sells mugs and crockery in Middle Street is Samuel Parker. :)

The shop is located in alleyway between the Alliance & Leicester 'castle' and that shop that sells mugs & crockery* in Middle Street. The chippy used to be Harry Ramsdens before being re-branded

*You probably know the name of that shop!

Since then I have a developed a strange, anorak like, interest in shop details. A bit like collecting train numbers :w00t:

It was Thursday evening at 7:00 pm, late night shopping. The queue for fish & chips was out of the door. So what happened? The staff closed the door, mid queue, and locked up for the night.

I thought the town traders were after more business. It seems strange that trade should be turned away in such a fashion!
