The more I hear of the silver ring thing the more I begin to wonder. Is this really about Lydias morals or is about the Christian Faith trying to proove / achieve case law so the silver ring thing can sweep across the schools here. From what I here Lydias father is the minister who is striving to get this recognised here.

Lydia keep it up , my own daughters have the same thoughts as you but no ring is required to show there thoughts, just a strong mind, same as drugs etc.

Just say NO!!!!

Lydia's case was run by a group of Christian lawyers so no cost to her. I guess the taxpayer footed the opposing lawyers bill, not aware of any costs being awarded

Who pays the court costs? Lydia, Millais or the public. It seems a waste to me and it would been better sunk into the school where it could have benefitted many rather than a solicitors bank account.

Lydia I applaud your morals keep them up:) but i still think that much time has been wasted.

I feel for Lydia losing her case, but at the same time do understand the reasoning why the judge ruled she wasn't being discriminated against.

However, I have to be honest and say the thing that does really annoy me is that she was being removed from her classes just because she refused to take the ring off. Why punish someone who quite clearly wants to work, when the majority of teachers don't even have the power to remove unruly or violent pupils from the classroom ???

Considering the quote I posted about the school’s uniform policy I think this quote from the letter sums it up:

“Millais School doesn't have a sixth form. Almost all of the pupils there are forbidden by law to engage in sexual relations. The pupils have no more need to publicly proclaim their chastity than they have to proclaim their abstinence from shoplifting or drug-taking.”

I fully agree with this letter. I know others think different and a recent County Times poll shows opinions are split evenly between those who think she should be allowed to the ring and those who think she should not.

I just think that there are deeper principles at stake and these are well illustrated by this letter.

It's great she has morals but at the end of the day the school has a uniform policy that is clear for all to see when their children first attend the school:

I too also agree with Lydias morals but i also agree that school rules must be obeyed and it is a ring, ( health and safety also kicks in ). My own daughters also have a very similar stance. Seeing the interview on television it did come across very strong that it was of her dads doing and I feel that at Lydia's age he should spend his time in other areas of her life such as results and her future needs. She has human rights, the right to life, the right to free from torment / bullying, the right to be free to enjoy a private life, difficult when press are roaming all around the school. Does this infringe my daughters human rights, should I take the school to task.

There is a principle and I agree with it but what a waste of time for the headmaster / other staff who have dealt with this. They have enough on thier plate let them get on with the job they are employed to do. If you don't agree with the rules and they havn't changed since the year 2000 that I know of then maybe you should look at alternative forms of education.

Good on Lydia, I say!!! It's a shame the majority of our teenagers don't have the same morals; it would save the tax payer millions of pounds a year with unwanted pregnancies and the aftermath that follows.

As for the school condemning her; they should be ashamed of themselves. Lydia should be commended on taking such an adult approach and a sensible stance on what she believes in!

(.... or at 38, am I being old-fashioned) :P

The media today is covering the story of the (ex) Millais school girl, Lydia Playfoot, who is fighting for the right to wear a 'purity' ring to school. The ring signifies that she will not take part in sex before marraige.
