Southwater Village Fete

A traditional village fete is being held in Southwater next Saturday, 28th June 12pm - 4pm

You will find everything from swingboats to the coconut shy, a small animal zoo to a creepy crawlies exhibit, beat the goalie to lucky dips, there will be lots for you all to see and do. Traditional stalls and games, the ever popular beer tent, barbeque and fantastic catering are amongst the other highlights you can look forward to. As always, children from the three Southwater schools will be performing displays of their dancing, gymnastics and singing.

Admission is £1 for adults and 50p for children

All proceeds go to The Schools of Southwater PTA, Registered Charity numbers 1081491 & 1036794

Off-road rides on the South Downs are available from Storrington for all abilities, arranged by South Downs Bikes. Horsham's annual Town Centre Festival is one spectacular event not to be missed.

Attracting thousands of visitors to the town centre each year, the three-day event runs from Thursday to Saturday during the October Half Term week, 10am to 9pm each day, throughout most areas of Horsham. This year the Festival will run from Thursday 25 to Saturday 27 October 2007.

Enjoy a fantastic range of organised activities including live music, street theatre, a traditional turn-of-the-century fun fair, unique workshops as well as other great things for people of all ages to enjoy.

As a special event, on Friday 26 October from 7pm, band ‘Tongues of Fire’ – will perform, taking the form of a precession allowing crowds to follow them from the Carfax to The Forum. The band can be described as a riot of reeds, brass and percussion inspired by sounds of church and chapel, of village, street, circus and gypsy bands, the jazz marches of Albert Ayler and the cosmic carnival of Sun Ra.

At The Forum at 8pm, ‘Feeding the Fish’ will amaze crowds with a high-energy stage-show where juggling and movement are performed in partial light with illuminated clubs and balls, changing brightness and strobing, emitting a spectrum of colours in perfect synchronization to a dramatic soundtrack. A mesmerising spectacle of choreographed colour which is both intriguing and captivating. Please note, there will be some strobing lights during this performance.

Some of the most talented street theatre performers in business will be in town on Saturday 27 October. ‘Emile Epstein’ will be performing Fire Juggling, Breathing, Fire Poi and Fire Staff. ‘Pesky four-legged bugs’, ladies gossiping over a wall, a man with a noisy briefcase and amazing artist – ‘John Hicks’ are all to feature and guaranteed to surprise you should you stumble across them!

Live music this year is an eclectic mix including many new bands including ‘Tuxedo Funktion’ - 9-piece funk/disco covers band, ‘The Mike O’Mara Gypsy Project’ with gypsy jazz, up-beat Eastern-European and Folk, plus ‘Rachel Hawker and the Remedies’ also plays with bundles of attitude.

Continuing into the evening from 6.30pm, the Battle of the Bands Final will take place on the Carfax Bandstand and will see six, talented young Horsham bands battle it out for that ‘winner’ title. Heats are taking place throughout October at the Drill Hall, Horsham.

The fun of the fair is back, lighting up the town with exciting rides - all at low prices. The turn-of-the-century style fair provides a great atmosphere throughout the town, featuring a Carousel, Chair-o-Planes, Haunted Castle, Games and Sides Stools plus the Ferris Wheel allowing spectacular views across Horsham, both day and night.

As usual, the majority of entertainment will be absolutely FREE. Don’t miss out!

A Fashion Show in aid of CHASE
A chance to network, and help a great charity.

CHASE hospice care for children exists to support families with life-limited children - that is, children or young people who are not expected to reach the age of 19 because of illnesses that are incurable. The care network that CHASE offers stretches throughout SW London, Surrey and Sussex.
CHASE supports families throughout the illness of their child and beyond, and without CHASE many families would find it difficult to cope. Today CHASE is supporting over 250 families.
It costs £3.5 million each year to run CHASE which has to be raised through charitable donation. CHASE provides its service, free of charge, 24 hours a day, every day of the year in whatever way it is needed.

An auction will be held as well as a raffle. Some great prizes to be had.
Last year we raised £4,735 for this very worthy cause. Help us to make it over £5000 this year.

From a beer festival to farm open days, from tutored tours to a ploughing competition, this year’s Food and Drink festival has all of what last year's festival had and more.

This is the fifth Food and Drink Festival and for those who are unaware, it is a celebration of local produce which showcases the outstanding local food & drink produced across West Sussex.

This year's festival, which runs for a month from 8 September to 7 October, is even bigger than last year's with 135 entries, a fifth more than 2006 and testimony to the growing popularity of local produce in the area. The 30 day programme, brought to you thanks to the generosity of local businesses, is crammed with special offers and events taking place throughout the county.

To satisfy your thirst for more information, a bite size portion of the events taking place throughout the festival include:

FrenchFest market

The ever popular FrenchFest market makes a return to Horsham’s Carfax from 9am to 5pm on Friday 14 and Saturday 15 September.

Produce stalls will include fresh bread, cheeses, cold sausages and confectionary whilst entertainment is lined up in the form of Le Hot Club Jazz Trio, Le Monsieur Maverick and Fifi La Mer to name just a few.

As with last year’s FrenchFest, local schools and Horsham’s Town Twinning Association are encouraging visitors to practise some French language with the traders and special FrenchFest stickers will be handed out to those who try their linguistic skills.

The French market operator ‘The Authentic French Market’ makes a return to the Horsham District after a very successful first appearance at the Billifest last Christmas in Billingshurst.
