| Hi my names John I am the assistant manager of the Railways of Britain website and we are looking for anything to do with the history of the branch line that ran through Southwater from 1861 until the line closed in 1966. What we would like is the names of the stations on the branch line when it was running the length of the branch and where it terminated or conected to other lines also any photos of the railway stations, trains or engines and rolling stock ect that would help in the writing of this article, so if anyone out there has any information we would be most gratefull. john g http://groups.msn.com/RailwaysofBritain

I cycle this route regularly (the Down's Link Bridleway follows the route of the old line) Firstly I think most of your questions could be answered with a copy of this book: Also if you can ever pay a visit down this way it is worth visiting here: It is parked beside the old line at the site of the West Grinstead Station. It is only open at the weekends and even then the times are quite limited but inside you will find an exhibition about this line. The real bonus is one of the guys that runs it used to work on the line at Southwater (I think he may have been a signalman but I am not certain). Also the old station building at West Grinstead was until recently a Little Chef. Inside they have quite a few old photographs. Unfortunately the Little Chef is now closed and I am not sure what will become of this building. If this information is useful to you would you mind registering on the forum and posting your question in the 'Southwater Chat' section. That way I can upload this information and anybody else searching for similar answers will be able to find it Hopefully, also, somebody far more knowledgeable then I will find it and add some more details. There has already been one post on the site about Southwater Station: If you follow the 'station sign' link from the above you will find an excellent set of pictures of this line on FLICKR (including the carriage above)

| Hi Johnboy There is a (tiny) little bit of info on this on the Henfied Museum website: http://www.henfield.gov.uk/museum.htm (Scroll Down to the Henfield Railway Station Section) What made me laugh was the name of the Housing estate that was built on the site of the old station - The Beechings
