According to this week's County Times Mothercare in West Street is closing for good in March. It looks like the most likely candidate to replace it is a Poundland.

As I mentioned in the Horsham Park Hotel thread. Something desperately needs to be done to boost the economy of our town. I think this gives weight to the argument for a new, quality, town centre hotel - wherever it may be built.

Not great news for the town. We really don't need a £ shop in place of a specialist supplier!

I suppose you may get some bargains in the closing down sale! At least it may leave room for a smaller 'baby' shop to operate in Horsham. Not sure if Mothercare is a franchise or a chain, the link below is unclear as to whether all shops or just the overseas ones are franchises. It must be a local decision to close unless I missed the decline of Mothercare on the news.

Bit upset about this as I'm due to give birth soon.  Where do I go to get all my baby's new things?

I think this is terrible.  Mothercare is one shop you expect to see on your High Street.  We most certainly do not need apound shop.  We already have Wilkinson's which is really successful and Savers.  We also have charity shops and pound shops at seasonal times of the year.  We have plenty of shops catering for that end of the market.  We need to see more of the normal High Street shops.  Horsham is starting to look like a ghost town!

I did a bit more research on this today. It seems it is not only Horsham that this is happening to.

Mothercare has decided to sell several of the properties it owns to Poundland.

Unfortunatley, as is currently often the case in Horsham, the property is worth more than the business.
