I was reading on the internet that there were up to 3000 Polish troops stationed in the Horsham area during WWII, see quote below. The only other evidence I have found of the Polish presence one war grave at Hills Farm Cemetery: http://www.hiddenhorsham.co.uk/43/hillscemetery.htm#Chojnicki
If anyone has any more information on the Poles in Horsham I would be happy to put together a feature on Hidden Horsham to mark their contribution to the WWII effort Quote from: http://www.angelfire.com/ok2/polisharmy/chapter6.html The Horsham Police in West Sussex went on the public record in 1948. In an article in a local newspaper entitled "A Bouquet for the Poles", Supt. Miller announced that "considering the large number of Poles we have in this district we get very little trouble from them." Unless one lived in a town like Horsham with over 3,000 Poles stationed in its Council area then the Poles were not a daily feature.

| By coincidence I got speaking to a lady yesterday at my works xmas do in London and to cut a long story short she informed me how she spent her early years living in the Polish Camp set up in the grounds of Petworth House during WWII. She told me a tail of how her father planted a small Cherry Tree shoot , which can now be found in the grounds as a very mature tree. Not being originally from West Sussex I was not aware of the Polish Camp , but am interested to find out more. Can anyone shed any light on this and possibly share some memories?
