It would seem that the banks have decided to call in the debts of Music Zone. Currently they are still trading and looking for a suitor.

This is one of Horsham's best shops in terms of product, space and customer service and it would be a shame to lose it. I think that it is an oversaturated market in Horsham with specialists Fopp & HMV also in the same market, not to mention Sainsbury's, WHS etc on the periphery.

The story is on the BBC here

Good luck with staying in business - the staff and management deserve it!

This is very sad but not something that surprises me.

I agree with you M that is has the space and it certainly has the customer service. I feel for the staff because it was not that long ago many were in this position before when MVC collapsed.

I disagree that it has the product. I buy a lot of music CD and DVDs and will always try and buy in Horsham before resorting to buying on-line. Music Zone seemed to carry a much smaller product range than MVC did. They seemed to concentrate on chart stuff which, as you point out, can often be bought cheaper in the supermarkets.

I think FOPP is very clever because a lot of products it sells can not be obtained elsewhere in Horsham. These products are also often cheaper than buying on-line when postage is taken into account. FOPP's success in Horsham will depend on whether there is a market for its products in Horsham. I think there is but only time will tell.

HMV obviously has the weight of a major chain behind it and it also has a very prominent position in West Street.

I personally think Music Zone in Horsham was always going to struggle following the arrival of FOPP and HMV. This was not the fault of the Horsham staff who are a dedicated bunch. This is another store closure due to national problems.

Good luck to all the staff.

Sliverscreen did not make it either, but they were rarely competitive on price

They weren't competitive on price but the Horsham branch was one of the best performing Silverscreen branches in the country. Unfortunately for them they were another business that collapsed due to national problems.

Still every cloud has a Silver(screen) lining. If they had still been around I doubt FOPP would have moved here. And I am very pleased that FOPP are here.

News out today from the music industry is that retailer Fopp is to buy 67 former stores from Music Zone, which went into administration last month.

That's great news for FOPP. As my favourite store in Horsham I just hope FOPP doesn't expand too quickly which would appear to have caused the downfall of Silverscreen etc.

I was very sorry to hear that MusicZone is now in administration a friend of mine worked there and would always tell me when the latest Doctor Who DVD's were in.

I wonder who will replace it now, or perhaps they'll leave it empty as there seems to be a curse in that building.
